The challenges of having to fix Owner-Builder’s work.
One of the biggest challenges that I come across is meeting with Owner-Builders who have limited construction knowledge and lack professional oversight. They employ guys off the street to build and end up with a mess. They then call a reputable building company to come in and fix the mess. The struggle lies in rectifying substandard workmanship which requires extra effort and expertise from reputable builders to salvage the project and meet industry standards. The reputable builder also has the challenge of having to work with an irritable client who had has a bad experience with ‘bad builders’. The client will then also argue with the reputable builder about pricing because now he has to pay a 2nd time to get his building work fixed and redone.
The lesson here is.. rather get the right people in to do the job properly the first time. A reputable company will also guarantee their work and return to fix any latent issues.
